Maybe It's the Rain - By Vinnie Vincent

The first few drops,  then a few more, and the drops quickly multiply into an applause of little splashes.  That's the way the notes start out. Then I heard the outpouring of all that's heavy on the clouds.  Or maybe what's heavy on the soul...  Would the rain be different if you were stuck at home on a wet Saturday afternoon with your soulmate?  Rain can bring two lovers together. Rain can separate a lonely soul from all that brought warmth and assurance that everything is going to be fine.  You got through yesterday and maybe tomorrow the sun will be out and you will feel fine,  but now spiritual isolation, while life for the one that got away goes on.  With nothing but time to reflect on those better days,  because right now you only remember the good times.  "It's been some time, since I've looked into your eyes, tell me could they still shine for me one more time?".  Because you just know "the threads of our love are still there",  would she feel the same way?  Imagine looking through a windshield in a heavy downpour (and the windshield wipers) just cannot keep up with your desire to have clarity, to understand why it all ended.  One thing is for certain, "dreams are like paper, so easy they tear".   The vocals radiate the sorrow.  The way the song brings out memories, it also inspired me to try to reproduce on the guitar and I spent some significant time playing this song, trying to recapture the feeling,   Like a bird sings to the song of another bird.

The song is a bit more complicated musically than it sounds,  I thought at first this song was in a bebop dominant scale but a particular chord threw me off. I discovered a particular chord in this song doesn't belong in a the A bebop dominant jazz scale.  I received a big clue from a very knowledgeable person on this song (??).    then digging a bit further I confirmed the chords I hear in this song do correlate  with many chords  from an online source to the music sheet on this song.  Of course this song could be sung in a different key if chosen, but the version on my special Vinnie Vincent CD is sung by Vinnie Vincent himself.  This song stretches the to the boundaries of an A major scale.  The chord Asus4 can be played similar to the E7sus4 (but without the low E string), it was the notation that the chord E7sus4 was used that led me to believe it could have been a jazz scale, but the use of F7 didn't quite line up.  I know this is technical and I barely understand it, but much like a scientist tries to understand the atomic structures of the most basic elements of the universe, I try to understand the basics of the universe with the great mind of Vinnie Vincent.  Since the various sources of music sheets available online are notorious for being inaccurate I try to match up what I hear with my own ears with the tabs or chords written by others.  As I discover more scales I learn how significant Vinnie Vincent's connection with music really is.  No one will ever dispute his talent, but many do not know just what it is that makes his ability to compose music so important.  One could say Vinnie's "use of chords is basterdized",  but I believe "bastardized" is not it,  I would rather say these chords (not found together in many scales) are "reunited".  Reunited: "become reconciled, have a reconciliation, be restored to one another, remarry, heal the breach..." YES!   "HEAL THE BREACH".  Vinnie's songs heal the breach, the breach in our souls to connect to other souls.    The rain brings out so many things, and maybe it's the rain that brings out our feelings we haven't felt in so long,  but Vinnie's songs "HEAL THE BREACH in our souls.  To quote Vinnie Vincent directly:  "I Invent my own voicings".  Yes Vinnie you sure do.

The recording of "Maybe It's The Rain" on my CD is of high definition quality and could very well be released as is,  but I cannot and will not share it online,  but here is a YouTube version to check out:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNB36TxoFV0.
