No Substitute - By Vinnie Vincent

Image
The initial calling out (like the feeling has built up long enough), could it be like one holding their breath waiting for that perfect moment to say what should be said?  This song says a lot and yet we know nothing of the object of his desire. We don't know her name or why she is so hard to reach.  Does she have a heart afraid of breaking?  Is she even aware of her own inner beauty and that she is worthy of his love?  Maybe she has never known true love. Is she hiding in her high rise office building or self imposed locked away in a witch's tower.  This is the perfect song of love, it tells of the perfect fairy-tale, a gentleman longing to win the trust and love of someone afraid to " come out of the shadows ",  to love and to be loved.  The release of tension going into the solo, is like the first breath of fresh air after being lock away in a stale room with no light.  The vocal harmonies really build on that feeling of the door opening and the light coming in,

Back On The Streets - By Vinnie Vincent

Is it true did someone else steal her heart?  That burn deep within, from not know brings on a spiritual nausea. If you have ever felt it, you can never forget it.  Before you can accept the truth, maybe you are looking for an answer that you want to hear.  But your gut tells you what you cannot and do not want to believe.  There are many songs about heartbreak, and relationships that have gone well past their decay, why?  Because it happens to all of us.  We can also relate to a song like this.  But " Back On The Streets " is different.  Its not about anger, its not centered around sadness like most songs about break-ups.   This song isn't about "pining for the lost lover to come back" ,  NO! it's about facing reality and choosing to come out stronger than before.  It's about triumph.  This song was kinda written by chance. The title was based on a comment from a friend of Vinnie's Richard Friedman at Richie's guitar store (WeBuyGuitars).  Wh

That Time Of Year - By Vinnie Vincent

What separates a really good song from cheap clichés is the words tell a story or conveys a message from the heart and resonates with the soul. But why can't a person say what they really want to say? A love letter straight from the heart, that is exactly what " That Time Of Year " really is. You know the time is near and the moment to share your feelings is running out.  Just say it.  This song is a message of love and hope but tempered in the solemnity that all the love and passion must be set aside because destiny has its grip on his senses and his will to " follow that midnight sun ".  The song is also a message of anxiety and pain because he has to choose to go on without her. As the day draws to an end he tells her that his time has come " to follow his dreams of glory ".  Maybe he left her a note. Having to leave the love of your life to make way for a better life, hurts no doubt.  Even the day they may reunite seems a life away. I immed

Maybe It's the Rain - By Vinnie Vincent

The first few drops,  then a few more, and the drops quickly multiply into an applause of little splashes.  That's the way the notes start out. Then I heard the outpouring of all that's heavy on the clouds.  Or maybe what's heavy on the soul...  Would the rain be different if you were stuck at home on a wet Saturday afternoon with your soulmate?  Rain can bring two lovers together. Rain can separate a lonely soul from all that brought warmth and assurance that everything is going to be fine.  You got through yesterday and maybe tomorrow the sun will be out and you will feel fine,  but now spiritual isolation, while life for the one that got away goes on.  With nothing but time to reflect on those better days,  because right now you only remember the good times.   "It's been some time, since I've looked into your eyes, tell me could they still shine for me one more time?" .   Because you just know " the threads of our love are still there ",  w

Gypsy In Her Eyes - By Vinnie Vincent

The smells that filled the air on an autumn night in the city, the sounds, the stir of the crowds with a story that could be told by everyone that walks by.  But there is this one story that transends the excitement on the city streets on this cool night... Remember that romance that seemed so good?  How could there be anything but everlasting love? A more soulful telling of a story similar to Bob Seger's "Hollywood Nights" but this story takes place on the East coast and the girl in this story left such a strong impression on hearts she has broken that the tears still melt on the back streets.  For whatever the reason, a restless heart, wanderlust or just old world ways she picked up and disappeared as fast as she arrived.  There aren't too many girls like her and the ones this song is about we can't let go.  Maybe this story is too distant for some, but that pit we feel in our gut that tells us how real this girl is.   There is so much mystery about her. I do

Over You - By Vinnie Vincent

Here it is... An un-released song written by Vinnie Vincent featuring vocals by Görun Edman.  “Lightyears beyond the moon, that’s where you are, If only my destiny could lead me to your star”.  The Song starts the mood with a harmonious vocal, which sounds like Vinnie Vincent and Gorun Edman.  Then after the intro and a pre-chorus you hear the mesmerizing verse and what sounds like a steel slide or (most likely) a pedal steel guitar.  Some experienced musicians would argue “why single notes with a pedal steel guitar?  I cannot answer that, I just know it adds to the effect. The songs use of either a steel slide or a full pedal steel (its hard to say which) as it is used in this song is just the right amount for notes played along with an electric guitar in the same notes in the verses only parallels the feeling if not amplifies it. To my knowledge no one has combined steel slide, electric guitar with pedal steel and no genre uses such a technique with what I consider a harm
